Dr. David Makar B.MSc, DDS, M.Sc, FRCD(C)

Dr. Makar believes in the power of a confident smile and is dedicated to a comprehensive approach to orthodontics, delivering results that are both beautiful and functional. His patients benefit from his meticulous attention to detail, calm demeanour and personalized care tailored to their unique needs. Dr. Makar finds immense joy in building lasting relationships with his patients and their families, enjoying the journey from initial consultation to the day their new smiles are revealed. What he finds most rewarding is witnessing his patients complete treatment as happier and more confident versions of themselves.

Dr. Makar’s commitment to excellence and patient-centered care has established him as a trusted professional. His innovative approach to orthodontics is rooted in a solid academic foundation and recognized research contributions.

Dr. Makar was the recipient of the Academy of General Dentistry Senior student award upon graduating dental school. During his residency, he was presented with the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation Research Award for his published novel research in temporomandibular joint disorders. He was also co-recipient of the Southern Ontario Surgical Orthodontic Study Club Award.

Dr. Makar is passionate about mentoring and connecting with the next generation of dentists and dedicates his time outside of the clinic as a part time clinical instructor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry.

Above all else, the titles Dr. Makar cherishes most are dad and husband. He balances his professional life by staying active and enjoying golf, hockey, traveling, cooking, exploring new restaurants, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Throughout his training, Dr. Barranca was the recipient of several awards for both his academic and clinical excellence, including the Ontario Dental Association Proficiency Award, the American Academy of Oral Maxillofacial Radiology Award, and the Southern Ontario Surgical Orthodontic Study Club Award. ‌

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Barranca enjoys spending quality time with his lovely wife and son. His hobbies include playing guitar, golfing, traveling, reading, and cooking. ‌
