Laughing Gas for Sedation
Laughing Gas for Sedation
Children can be fidgety and nervous about dental appointments. We offer sedation for children who need it and one of the safest is laughing gas, or nitrous oxide. Your child will remain conscious throughout treatment with this option but will be relaxed and non-stressed while our caring dentists do the procedure.
Benefits of Laughing Gas
Nitrous oxide is used by dentists for its many benefits. It puts the patient into a calm, twilight sleep fast and wears off quickly. Generally, it has few side effects. Some patients experience a headache or mild nausea afterward.
It's Safe
Laughing gas is safe for children, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. We evaluate your child's overall health before administering laughing gas to ensure it's a safe option.
How It's Administered
Nitrous gas is given using a mask over your child's nose. Arms and legs may feel heavy as your child relaxes. The effects wear off after the child starts breathing room air when the mask is off.
